The finding, in our words

Noviplex dried plasma spot cards yielded neurofilament light chain measurements equivalent to standard plasma in healthy controls and ALS patients, while dried blood spot eluates gave different absolute values but still discriminated between the two groups. The results support remote dried blood microsampling as a practical alternative to venous sampling for neurodegeneration biomarkers in ALS.

Capillary dried blood spots, after haematocrit-dependent conversion, showed good agreement with plasma for 25-hydroxyvitamin D quantification, with 90 per cent of results within 20 per cent of plasma and substantial to almost perfect agreement in status classification, supporting reliable home self-collection for large-scale vitamin D monitoring.

Capillary finger-stick dried blood spots demonstrated strong analytical agreement with venous serum for prostate-specific antigen (R² = 0.987) and remained stable for 31 days across a wide temperature range. This less invasive microsampling approach enables at-home self-collection, supporting decentralised screening and tele-diagnostics for prostate cancer.

Older adults achieved 98% adherence when self-collecting dried blood spots at home for inflammatory markers, with 97% of samples yielding valid results. Test-retest reliability was good (ICCs 0.70–0.76) and correlation with venous blood was strong (r=0.60–0.99), demonstrating that remote capillary sampling is a feasible and valid method for decentralised assessment of inflammation in older adults.

Finger-stick capillary blood spotted onto filter paper and dried (DBS) provides C-reactive protein results that correlate excellently with venous plasma (R² = 0.986). The method correctly classified all 25 high cardiovascular-risk patients and 12 of 13 inflammation cases, with analyte stability demonstrated for 31 days, supporting its use for patient-centric at-home sampling in decentralised diagnostics and screening programmes.

The study found reasonable agreement between finger-prick dried blood spot CRP measurements and venous reference assays in 100 rheumatoid arthritis patients, particularly at low to mid-range CRP values, and showed that weekly self-collected DBS CRP monitoring improved flare detection specificity to 72.7% compared with 54.5% for minimal sampling, supporting decentralised microsampling for remote arthritis management.
