Longitudinal Remote Sleep and Cognitive Research in Older Adults With Mild Cognitive Impairment and Dementia: Prospective Feasibility Cohort Study

Gabb et al.

The finding, in our words

The study demonstrated that longitudinal remote monitoring using wearable sleep electroencephalography, actigraphy, and self-collected saliva samples is feasible in older adults with mild cognitive impairment or dementia, with high retention and data completeness rates over eight weeks.

Continuity and innovation in the data collection protocols of the second Wave of the National Social Life, Health, and Aging Project

A US survey of 3,400 adults aged 62 to 90 collected up to 15 biomeasures at home, including saliva, dried blood spots and urine, with Salivette and Oragene among the devices used, which shows that several patient-centric sampling methods can run together in home-based research.

Association Between Neurofilament Light Chain and Real-World Ambulatory Function in Progressive MS

In progressive multiple sclerosis, higher serum neurofilament light chain levels were associated with reduced daily step counts from wearables, while higher step counts were linked to lower sNfL. A ten percent increase in steps corresponded to a 0.015 decrease in sNfL z-score, suggesting rising sNfL may predict subsequent mobility decline.

"Like Taking Part in Star Wars": Qualitative Study Using Thematic Analysis to Explore the Acceptability and Experiences of Older Adults Participating in Remote Longitudinal Sleep and Dementia Research

Older adults with and without cognitive impairment were motivated to participate in longitudinal remote sleep research, finding it acceptable when device burden was low, usability high, and adequate support enabled routine integration. Varying cognitive task content and allowing timing flexibility reduced fatigue, while diverse recruitment remains needed for equitable representation in decentralised dementia trials.
