Cholesterol at ages 6, 12 and 24 months: Tracking and associations with diet and maternal cholesterol in the Infant Cholesterol Study

    In an adolescent with cerebral palsy undergoing a home-based, remotely supervised sprint-intensity interval training intervention, dried blood spot testing demonstrated a 37.8% reduction in triglycerides and a 15.4% improvement in total cholesterol to HDL ratio. This illustrates how remote microsampling can support decentralized metabolic monitoring in pediatric disability rehabilitation.

    Home dried blood spot monitoring for maple syrup urine disease raised the proportion of leucine concentrations meeting therapeutic targets by 35 per cent. More frequent self-sampling at home was associated with better biochemical control in newborns and fewer hospital visits, showing that patient-centric microsampling can improve management of inherited metabolic disorders.

    Home-collected dried blood spots from 143 infants aged 8-14 months revealed wide variation in total cholesterol (4.1 mmol/L, range 2.3-6.6) and glycated haemoglobin (4.9%, range 3.7-6.0).
