Higher prevalence of human papillomavirus infection in adolescent and young adult girls belonging to different Indian tribes with varied socio-sexual lifestyle
Sharma et al.
The finding, in our words
Self-collected urine samples from 2034 tribal girls aged 9-25 years showed 12.9% HPV prevalence, rising to 19.2% among 18-25-year-olds. High-risk types comprised 65% of infections, with HPV16 accounting for 54%. This supports urine-based self-collection as a feasible tool for decentralised HPV screening in underserved populations.
