PfLDH-detecting rapid tests evaluated in Ethiopian field settings achieved only 69 to 72% sensitivity and 36 to 38% specificity against PCR and immunoassay. This suboptimal performance challenges their suitability for decentralised malaria diagnosis, especially where HRP2 gene deletions require alternative antigen targets.
