Clinical Evaluation of the Cepheid Xpert TV Assay for Detection of Trichomonas vaginalis with Prospectively Collected Specimens from Men and Women
Schwebke et al.
The finding, in our words
A multicentre evaluation of the Cepheid Xpert TV assay in 1,867 women and 4,791 men found sensitivities of 99.5 to 100% and specificities of 99.4 to 99.9% across female urine, self-collected vaginal swabs and endocervical swabs, with male urine showing 97.2% sensitivity and 99.9% specificity. The assay's strong performance with self-collected specimens and rapid on-demand results supports expanded screening for trichomoniasis in both sexes.
