Mycoplasma genitalium Infections Among Participants in an HIV Pre-exposure Prophylaxis Program in Hanoi, Vietnam
Nguyen et al.
The finding, in our words
In a Vietnamese HIV PrEP cohort, self-collected urine, rectal and pharyngeal specimens tested with the Alinity m STI Assay showed a 10.9% prevalence of Mycoplasma genitalium, highest in rectal sites, and 71% of infections were asymptomatic. This supports decentralised, patient-collected sampling for STI screening to identify asymptomatic infections and guide pathogen directed therapy.
