Health Coaching and Its Impact in the Remote Management of Patients With Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus: Scoping Review of the Literature
Seng et al.
The finding, in our words
Health coaching delivered via remote monitoring improved diabetes control and self-efficacy in patients with type 2 diabetes, but had limited impact on blood pressure, lipid control, quality of life, and healthcare utilisation; most included studies followed patients for under one year and used telephone as the primary modality.

The study observed favourable trends in the accrual of participants residing far from the site and those from underrepresented groups following the implementation of a decentralised clinical trial program.
This proof-of-concept study demonstrated that patients with inflammatory bowel disease could successfully perform capillary blood microsampling at home with high analytical success rates, and a majority preferred this decentralised approach over hospital venous draws.

In a 20-person proof-of-concept pilot among veterans with HIV, remote self-collection of dried blood spots for phosphatidylethanol monitoring was feasible and acceptable, with high return and analysis rates and positive feedback; a small first step toward decentralised alcohol biomarker monitoring rather than proof of it.

A fully remote decentralised clinical trial in Danish adults with type 2 diabetes demonstrated operational feasibility with rapid recruitment, high retention (87 percent), and excellent adherence to continuous glucose monitoring (95 percent achieving ≥70 percent data coverage) and telemedicine visits (97 percent). Activity tracker adherence was poor (12 percent) due to technical issues, but remote safety monitoring was effective with no unexpected adverse events, supporting the viability of remote diabetes management.
Viloxazine extended release improved ADHD, depression and anxiety symptoms in adults with comorbid conditions during a 14-week decentralised trial. The study demonstrates that remote monitoring via televisit, mobile app and home devices can deliver real-world efficacy and safety data for psychiatric medications.
