The landscape of decentralized clinical trials (DCTs): focusing on the FDA and EMA guidance
Park et al.
The finding, in our words
This analysis of regulatory guidance and 4,874 registered trials found that decentralised clinical trials have grown annually, especially after 2020, with most involving simple behavioural and technological interventions rather than drug studies. Both the FDA and EMA emphasised patient safety and data integrity as the two axes for assessing decentralised elements, and the trial landscape aligned with these recommendations by predominantly using low-risk, previously approved oral drugs.
